PUTUMAYO

The hyper-specific and far out fashions are what Harajuku is known for. Whether it be a girl with plush toys faceted to every single place on her person or a guy who look like something out of a vampire chick flick, you will see every type and sub-group on Harajuku’s Takeshita-dori. However, what if you want a little bit of this fashion world for yourself? Where does one go to become the goth-lolita prince or princess of your dreams? Just at the end of Takeshita-dori and a few blocks from Omotesando’s Meijijingumae station lies the multi-leveled fashion mall, Laforet. However, this is not our end destination. Head underground to Laforet’s 1.5 basement level to find the goth-lolita heaven of Putumayo. Although Takeshita-dori can offer you the goth-lolita style on the cheap (although those platform boots will set you back a little bit no matter where you go), Putumayo is where you should go if quality is what you are looking for over quality.

The clothing inside of Putumayo is not the only thing that is impressive. The decor of Putumayo is understated and well put together and nothing like a garish form of Hot Topic like you would expect. It is almost as if Beetlejuice had a cousin who had a really fine taste in interior design. The black and white tiled floors are immaculate and the ingenious use of the delicate parasols for sale as ceiling decorations adds an Alice in Wonderland flair to the atmosphere. Aside from the decorations placed delicately around the store, Putumayo offers everything that you need and more to bring your wardrobe over to the dark side. Putumayo offers the classic goth-lolita necessities such as frilled petticoats and black satin ribbon laced corsets, but every kind of accessory you need to add the finishing touches to your look are available as well. You can buy several kinds of platform heels and mary janes to satisfy your footwear needs as well as any kind of appropriate goth-lolita head gear that you can dream up. The iconic mini top hats can be purchased in a variety of colors and levels of lacy-ness as well any kind of maid-esque frilled topper to make your head as darkly cute as possible.

To find where the true goth-lolitas find there perfect flair, you need to go beyond the convenience of the goth-lolita shops of Harajuku’s Takeshita-dori. Head to where those in the know go and get yourself to the basement floor of Laforet and into Putumayo!
